Case Study (17th January, 2010) : |

Vishnu is a Vodafone
customer and has around 600 contacts in his phonebook. The data volume
involved in the sync process is approximately 130 kb. The GPRS tariff
applicable is 10 paisa/ 10 kb. It cost him around Rs 1.30 for the first
time sync. Subsequent sync would have cost just 1 paisa but the current
tariff applicable mandates a minimum usage charge of 10 paisa. Assuming
he synchronized his phone 5 times in a month it would cost him Rs 1.8
for the first month and only 50 paisa for subsequent months.
If
we were to use Vishnu's statistics as a thumb rule to extrapolate it to
a general user then we could arrive at a cost to user formula of 1 paisa for backing up 5 contacts.
Assuming that an average user would have 250 odd contacts and would synchronize his/her phone twice a month. His/her
- first time cost would be just 50 paisa,
- first month cost would be 60 paisa and
- subsequent months only 20 paisa
annual cost of back up just Rs 3/- |
